Anfernee Dijksteel was singled out by Lee Bowyer after his goal scoring performance in Charlton’s 4-0 win over Scunthorpe.

The defender, in for the suspended Chris Solly at right back, scored his first goal for the club as the Addicks bounced back from a disappointing defeat at Oxford on Friday.

With a top two finish seemingly out of reach, Bowyer was pleased as goals from Joe Aribo, Igor Vetokle, Lyle Taylor added to Dijksteels opener as they extended their unbeaten home run to 16 games.

“It was a good touch and finish and that got us going,” Bowyer said of Dijksteel's score.

“He’s been good you know.

“He’s improved in that final third, I keep telling him.

“I thought every ball he put in the box was a great cross.

“He made the run, it was a great ball from Lyle (Taylor).

“I’m over the moon with their character.

“Defeat on Friday hurt us a lot.

“They’ve just come and blown everyone away with that performance.

“I thought we were outstanding from start to finish.

“For me it was the perfect performance and I’m just glad it happened.

“There are a hell of a lot of plusses for me today.”

Play-Off Pedigree

With the play-off the likely route if promotion is achieved this season, Bowyer knows that over two-legs the home game is vital, and with their current run at The Valley, the Addicks boss is confident of beating anyone.

“We’ve scored seven here in the last two games.

“No one will want to play us in the play-offs.

“We need some luck and we need to keep our players fit.

“Like I’ve said before, when we’ve got a full squad, we’re exception. The lads know that I won’t let them take their foot off the pedal.

“We’ll learn from last year, because that hurt and we don’t want to feel that again.”

There was some good news on the injury front from the Scunthorpe victory as Jake Forster-Caskey made his long-awaited return from injury as he was introduced with ten minutes to go.

Charlton travel to Gillingham next weekend before finishing the season at home against Rochdale.
