Here's how we rated Millwall's players in their defeat to Aston Villa.

David Martin - 8 - A superb performance, one of his best all season. Did brilliantly to thwart Kodjia when got pretty much one-on-one with him and made fantastic stops to deny El Ghazhi, Green and Davis. That said, his kicking distribution was poor all game. Man of the match.

Mahlon Romeo - 7 - His opposite number El Ghazhi didn't have a lot of joy against him.

Alex Pearce - 7.5 - The more comfortable of the two centre backs. Was visibly furious with Cooper and Meredith when Kodjia got a shot at goal following a defensive lapse. Didn't do much wrong.

Jake Cooper - 7 - While his defending was solid he was a liability in possession. Had a few defensive scares, neither of which were really his fault, but made a brilliant last-ditch block late on.

James Meredith - 6 - Made a great pass which led to Millwall having the best chance of the first half. Conversely, he made a poor tackle on substitute Andre Green which Villa could've done a lot better with.

Ben Marshall - 6 - Helped out more defensively than going forward, it was more his work off the ball which counted.

Ryan Tunnicliffe - 6 - Partnered up with Leonard in midfield but, like Leonard, he struggled with Grealish. Replaced with Steve Morison.

Ryan Leonard - 5.5 - Not his best game. Made a glaring error which Millwall were fortunate to not be punished for and his passing accuracy was sometimes mixed at best. Had his hands full with Grealish.

Shane Ferguson - 6 - Bundles of energy, as usual, down the left flank. Switched from winger to defender after Meredith was brought off.

Jed Wallace - 6.5 - Played in behind Gregory as a secondary striker with licence to be creative. Had flashes on the ball but not many.

Lee Gregory - 6 - Fed off scraps all game, as one would expects. Stayed hot on the toes off the defenders to try and force mistakes.
