Alex Pearce is no stranger to a relegation fight.

Having had loan spells at Norwich City, Bournemouth, and Bristol City whilst at Reading, the Millwall captain knows what it takes to get over the line and avoid the dreaded ‘R’ word.

With four games remaining the Lions are teetering three points above the drop zone with tricky ties against Stoke, Bristol, and fellow strugglers Wigan to come after Easter Monday’s trip to Villa Park, and Pearce’s experience could prove vital.

“The best advice I can give is to take care of your own performance,” said Pearce.

“Don’t look too far ahead.

“Clear your head.

“Individually perform the best you can and live your life right off the pitch.

“As players you just got to take care of business, and the result will take care of itself.”

Despite admitting feeling frustrated by not capitalising on playing against ten men for the best part of an hour in their 1-1 draw Brentford, Neil Harris’s side will head to Villa Park in confident mood after four games without defeat.

“Villa are a very good side, on their day they can beat anyone, but so can we.

“They’re massive favourites, they’re expected to beat us, so it’s a different pressure for them but we want to go there wanting to upset the party.

“We know they’ve got strengths, very good players, it’ll be difficult, but one we will relish.”

Millwall have been underdogs for most matches this season, a tag that Pearce has no problem with.

“It suits us as club, that we can go to big places like that and perform.

“Teams higher up the table find it difficult against us the way we play.

“Especially at their own home where fans can get frustrated.”

As for where he thinks Millwall will finish this season: "If we take care of our performance I’m sure we’ll be where we want to be."
