Like many at the Club, Charlton’s Igor Vetokele is unsure of his future beyond the summer but believes he is enjoying his best spell in SE7.

The forward starred in the Addicks 3-1 win over Luton Town on Saturday and the emotion in his celebration was clear to see.

Putting his side 2-1 up the Angolan’s outpouring of emotion could only be born from a season tormented by injury, where he was most recently side-lined for three months with a dislocated shoulder between November and February.

“I’ve had a couple of moments I’ve enjoyed, but definitely now, I’m enjoying now,” said the 27-year-old.

“For me coming this far with the shoulder injury, I just needed games to get back to the level I wanted to be.

“I’m getting more games now so it’s easier to get to the level where I need to be.”

Lee Bowyer has said that fans are beginning to see the best of the striker now he is having a run of games in the side.

Alongside Lyle Taylor their partnership is blossoming, an outcome Vetokele never had any doubt would happen.

“I wasn’t worrying about that because I played a couple pre-season games with Lyle and it was going well, so I was confident we were going to find each other on the pitch.

“Lyle is a good player, so am I.”

Vetokele’s form is making it hard for the club not to extend his five-year stay at The Valley beyond June, when his contract is up, not that the thought is playing on the forward’s mind.

“I’ve got a family so of course I think about my future, but for me the most important thing now is trying to get promotion with Charlton, and we’ll take it from there.

“I don’t know how the situation is, so I’ll focus on the target for Charlton and see in a couple of weeks.”
