Here’s how the players rated in their 3-1 defeat by Manchester City.
Vicente Guaita
Nothing he could do from Sterling’s opener. Made a good stop from Sane at the near post to keep the difference to one in the first half, but other than that City were clinical with their clear chances. 6
Patrick van Aanholt
Given a torrid time first half by Sterling where bis defensive positioning was questioned. Didn’t have the chance to get forward. Long day at the office for the Dutchman, very long day. Poor. 3
Scott Dann
Dealt well with the threat of Aguero but most of the play was infront of the back four. Shown a clear pair of heels by Sterling for the goal…but what defender hasn’t this season?6

Martin Kelly
Hodgson said he and Dann had big shoes to fill, he answered those calls but sadly he was up against an efficient City side. Impossible for any team to soak up 90 minutes of pressure. Not his or Dann’s fault goals were conceded. 6
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Can’t remember a threatening cross Sane managed to get past the defender. Spider like legs were called into action on a couple of occasions, in another performance that wouldn’t have gone unnoticed from Pep’s watchful eye. 7
Luka Milivojevic
A couple of misplaced passes set the tone in a hugely defensive display. In a game where possession was going to be sparse, those missed passes were hugely frustrating. That said, the pass into the back of the net was very nice. 6
Jeffrey Schlupp
Very little time to make any impact before injury ruled him out. Made one neat turn which sent David Silva walkies. 5
James McArthur
Admirable display but when don’t you say that. Had little in terms of going forward, as expected against a City side who were completely dominant. 6
Wilfried Zaha
Frustrating day for Zaha. Starved of possession and didn’t get the luck of the green from referee Martin Atkinson. Walker and Sterling pinned him back, still Palace’s best attacking threat. 6
Andros Townsend
Wasteful in possession in front of AWB. Improved second half, but couldn’t recreate any of the magic he produced at The Etihad. 5
Christian Benteke
No service of note. Did well on the few occasions the ball was pumped long, held it up but unfortunately his team mates were camped deep in their half. 7
Subs:
Cheikhou Kouyate
On earlier than anticipated and took sometime to get up to speed. Chased and harried but ultimately couldn’t affect the game. How can you without the ball? 6
Max Meyer
Injected some much-needed composure when introduced. No surprise Palace kept hold of the ball for longer periods when he was on the park. Not sure he can do much more to earn a start. 7
Bakary Sako
Little time to make an impact. 5
