Millwall fans have rallied around goalkeeper Dave Martin after his FA Cup error cost his side a trip to Wembley.

Martin’s 94th minute mistake from Solly March’s long free-kick levelled the tie deep in injury time before Brighton went on to win the contest on penalties.

The former MK Dons keeper, 33, took to social media to apologise to the Lions faithful soon after the blunder.

Opposing goalkeeper and penalty shootout hero for Brighton Matt Ryan says he spoke to the Martin following the tie.

“It happens,” he said.

“I told him that one moment does not define him.

“He was solid all game apart from that.

“He seemed to have plenty of character himself.

“You have got to learn from your mistakes and see what you can do to not let it happen again.

“Aside from that he had a great game and I am sure he will be better for his experience.”

Martin’s honest admission post-match endeared himself to fans and they were quick in letting him know where they stood.
