Selhurst Park’s hostile atmosphere was the perfect preparation for Brighton’s FA Cup quarter-final tie with Milllwall according to Glenn Murray.

Murray opened the scoring in the Gulls 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday and the atmosphere generated in the M23 derby will stand his teammates in good stead ahead of their trip to the infamous ‘New Den.’

The forward admitted that many of his team mates will not have experienced anything like Millwall’s home ground.

“I’m sure we’ll sit them down and give them a heads up of what to expect,” said the 35-year-old.

“There’s nowhere more difficult than Selhurst park, when they got their equaliser the fans get right up for it and this is a difficult place.

“It’s going to be similar to that.”

Neil Harris’ Millwall side go into he fixture on the back of a fine 2-0 win at Birmingham after a run of four straight defeats, and having crossed paths with the Lions on seven occasions in his 15-year career, Murray knows what to expect from their trip to Bermondsey.

“It’s going to be tough make no bones about it.

“There’s no VAR, it’ll be physical, we’ll need to be ready for it.”

Survival the Aim

Premier League survival is Brighton’s aim this season, but being just one game away from a trip to Wembley, Murray is aware of the effect it can have on his side and the Brighton community.

"It’s a great opportunity for us players, as a player you always want to progress in comp,

"Our priority is to be safe in the league but on the back of that it’ll be great for us and fans to have a cup run and appreciate a day out at Wembley.

"And what a great incentive it is to have a day out at Wembley.

“The FA Cup has had a lot of bad press over the last three or four seasons, people putting weakened sides out, but at this stage of the competition I think all teams in it are 100% taking it seriously.”
