Ben Reeves’ diving header saw Charlton secure a comfrotable 2-1 win over Burton.

Lyle Taylor won and converted a sixth-minute penalty before the Brewers scored a spot-kick of their own through Lucas Akins.

On 33 minutes, Taylor’s cross was emphatically met by Reeves, whose winning goal ensured the Addicks closed the gap on second-placed Barnsley to eight points.

Here's how News Shopper rated Charlton’s players…

Dillon Phillips - 7 - Could not do anything about the penalty and made a smart save to deny Liam Boyce late on. He dominated his area when crosses came into the box and his distribution, which has been questioned before, is massively improving.

Chris Solly - 7 - He looked fresh after being rested against Portsmouth on Saturday. Reliable as ever.

Patrick Bauer - 7 - Extremely unlucky to be penalised for Burton’s penalty after David Templeton’s powerful shot struck his arm at point-blank range. Led by example from the back, though, and had made an excellent last-ditch block in the first minute.

Naby Sarr - 8 - Bauer bailed him out with only seconds on the clock after his heavy touched allowed Marcus Harness to bear down on goal. But the Frenchman defended well for the rest of the evening and is doing enough to keep fit-again captain Jason Pearce out of the team.

Ben Purrington - 5 - The midfield diamond often left him isolated with his winger. Did not offer enough support going forward.

Josh Cullen - 9 - Playing at the base of the diamond, it’s hard to think of a pass he put wrong. The West Ham loanee was everywhere and his tackling was superb.

Joe Aribo - 6 - A quiet game by his high standards, especially following his man-of-the-match display in the Portsmouth win.

Ben Reeves - 7 - Had a point to prove after losing his place in the team in recent weeks. Scored the winning goal with a rare, and possibly never seen before, diving header. Worked very hard off the ball.

Tariqe Fosu - 6 - This was one of his better performances in a stop-start season for the 23-year-old. Hit the woodwork just before Taylor’s opener. Used the ball smartly in the final third.

Josh Parker - 5 - Linked play well with Taylor but failed to pull up any trees. You would assume Igor Vetokele takes his place for the trip to Bristol Rovers this weekend.

Lyle Taylor - 9 - He is unplayable on his day. A well-taken penalty and an assist to his name. His work-rate and quality on the ball is incredible. It’s now 17 goals for Charlton’s top scorer this season. Man of the match.
