‘Momentum’ is the key-word in the race for promotion according to Lyle Taylor.

The forward who gained promotion with Wimbledon in 2015 through the play-offs believes the Addicks have to maintain their winning mentality despite a play-off place almost guaranteed.

Taylor, 28, who scored the match winner in Charlton’s 2-1 win over Portsmouth said they can’t take their foot off the gas despite no realistic chance of challenge for the automatic places.

“Momentum is the biggest thing in football,” said Taylor.

“And you’re only going to get that from going out there and dominating games.

“At the end of the day, regardless if we make top two or the play offs, we have to carry momentum into it.

“I know from my time at Wimbledon when we finished 7th.

“We went unbeaten from nowhere, 12 or 13th up to 7th and we carried the momentum.

“We felt we were never going to lose in the play-offs.”

Lee Bowyer’s side sit fifth in the table, two points behind Portsmouth and despite being ten points behind Barnsley in second, says they will keep fighting as long as automatic promotion is mathematically possible.

“We’ve only got ten left and we’re ten points behind, but we’ve got an outside chance, but an outside chance is a chance.”

Charlton welcome Burton on Tuesday.
