Lee Bowyer hailed his side’s 2-1 win over Portsmouth as one of the best of the season.

Lyle Taylor’s second half goal won the game for The Addicks to mirror the result at Fratton Park earlier this season and the manager believes both performances deserved to be recognised.

“To beat them home and away is an achievement on its own,” he said.

“There’s not another team that’s done that I don’t think.

“You can’t ignore the fact they’ve been in the top two for most of the season.

“They run over sides so what we’ve just done is similar if not better than the performance we put in away.

Matched Physically

Charlton dominated the majority of the first half but found themselves level at the break as Ronan Curtis’ header from a corner cancelled out Joe Aribo’s opener moments before the half time whistle.

Despite momentarily switching off for the goal, Bowyer couldn’t find fault with his side as they narrowed the gap between themselves and their fourth placed victims to two points.

“You have to match Portsmouth physically, that’s what they do, they compete, fight and run over the top of teams and that didn’t happen today.

“We matched them physically, competed and won the ball back, then we can do what we are good at, and that’s passing the ball.

“Sometimes we may over pass it, but it tires them out.

“My lads were great today, every single one of them.

“They should be proud of themselves.

“There’s been two strong teams fighting for promotion, fairly, and I think it’s a great advert for the league.”
