Lyle Taylor’s tireless running paid-off with a goal according to his manger.
Taylor proved to be the match winner at The Valley in their 2-1 defeat of Portsmouth, but it’s his overall input that impresses Lee Bowyer.
The striker’s goal was put on a plate for him by substitute Ben Reeves on 51 minutes which closed the gap on their promotion rivals to just two points.
Firm Believer
“I’m a firm believer in that hard work pays off,” said Bowyer.
“Strikers, all they want to do is score goals, they’re greedy aren’t they? Lyle is no different.
“But through hard-work he got a tap in.
“For his work-rate I thought he deserved it.
“Stopping balls into the box at the end, he must’ve run from one side to the other, sprinting a hundred yards to stop a cross, and when you work hard you get rewarded.
“I’m over the moon, because he deserved it.”
Taylor has one more game to navigate without picking up a caution or face a two-game suspension.
Charlton face Burnley on Tuesday night.
