George Lapslie has signed a new contract which will keep the Academy product at The Valley until 2021.

The 21-year-old follows goalkeeper Dillon Phillips in committing their immediate futures to the Addicks.

Lapslie made his debut at the end of 2017 but has come to the fore this season for Lee Bowyer’s side commanding a regular birth in the matchday squad.

“He’s got a good future in front of him,” said Bowyer.

“I’m delighted, he deserves it. He’s been working hard and improved a lot this season. I’m pleased for George. Hopefully he can carry on improving.

“He’s always been a lad that leaves everything out there – I don’t think anyone can deny that – but it’s the in-possession stuff he’s improved on a lot and he’s maturing and, obviously, learning.

The midfielder, who’s contract was due to expire in the summer, has been at the club since the age of ten told the club website:

“I’m ecstatic, really. It makes me very proud of myself and what I’ve done.

"I’m sure my family are very proud. I’m going to try and kick on now and really establish myself in the team.”

Lapslie has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, including an unforgettable display in the victory at Portsmouth.
