Charlton’s Ben Purrington won’t be taking anything for granted when they travel to basement club AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

The Dons were knocked out of the FA Cup fifth round by Millwall on Saturday but won their last league outing at Walsall.

Purrington, on loan from Rotherham spent the first half of the season at Kingsmeadow and knows first hand of the quality the side have despite siting seven points a drift at the foot of the table.

“It’s never a nice place to go,” said the left-back.

“We’ll take nothing for granted when we go there.

“It’s a small pitch. It’ll be a tough game, long ball at times. The pitch is alright to be fair, you can pass it around, but it’s a very tight pitch. We’ll have to adapt to that.

“They’re not a bad side and they’re a good group of lads there.”

The 22-year-old spoke fondly of his time at Wimbledon but conceded his sole focus is with Charlton for the rest of the season.

“I really enjoyed my time there and they’ve had a great cup run.

“But, I’m loving it at Charlton.

“It’s a great club.

“There’s a good feel around the place, being at the top of the league. Good players. All the staff are friendly. I’m thoroughly enjoying it.”

Dip in Form

Charlton have seen their form dip slightly in recent weeks and following their goalless draw with Blackpool on Saturday, Purrington is fully aware of the need to get back to winning ways.

“If we don’t string some wins together then it’s inevitable that some teams will catch us.

"It’s the same at the bottom, same at the top. We need to push on now, get a little rhythm back and get a little run going.

“As a group, we’ve got to stay strong together now.

“You can see the quality we’ve got in the squad. It’s a deep squad. We’ve got people who can come in and deliver the quality. Nothing changes, we work hard towards the next game.”

The point picked up against Blackpool leaves the Addicks fifth in League One, but now only four points ahead of Peterborough in seventh.

The goalless draw had a sense of deja-vu for Purrington.

"Same as the last couple of games really.

“We dominated the game but didn’t create enough clear-cut chances. We had a lot of possession.

“We didn’t really look like conceding which has been the case of a lot of games that we’ve played.

“It’s a shame that we couldn’t get the goal and the win.

“They’ve come away with a point, it’s not what we wanted but we’ve got to move on now to Wimbledon and focus on that.”
