Lee Bowyer dropped a big hint that Josh Parker could start his first league game for Charlton at The Valley on Saturday.

Blackpool’s visit this weekend also signals the end of Lyle Taylor three match suspension as he’s expected to go straight into the starting XI.

In the Montserrat international’s absence Bowyer has cast his eye over the returning from injury Vetokele and new signing Parker, and it seems the latter is in line to start alongside Taylor.

“There’s two spots between three, the best two will get it,” an uncompromising Bowyer said.

“Igor started last Saturday and I think it was difficult for him fitness wise, he’s been out for a long time and we had to chuck him in at the deep end.

“Josh came on and made a good impact and he’s starting to realise what we want from him now and how we want to use him.”

Since Taylor’s red card in the 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley, Charlton have picked up two points in three games, and his importance to the side was not underestimated by Bowyer.

“It seems a lifetime ago he kicked a ball for us, I know he’s like a kid at a sweet shop now.

“He can’t wait to get in there and get going, he’ll be flying on Saturday.

“Him coming back is huge, we’ve missed him, it’s obvious that you’re going to miss your best striker."

Charlton are currently fifth in League One, seven points adrift of automatic promotion places, but six points clear of Peterborough in seventh.
