Charlton’s Chris Solly declared the arrival of Jonny Williams as a ‘major coup’ as he calls for the 'new' signings to make an impact.

Williams arrived at The Valley following his spell with Crystal Palace in early January on a six-month deal which shook League One.

Solly singled out the Welshman for praise but also spoke glowingly about the club’s other attacking recruits made in the transfer window.

“The quality he’s got is levels above and we’re lucky to have him,” said the full-back.

“He’s shown that in the few games he’s played for us and hopefully he’ll carry that on in the next 10-15 games.

“He’s a local lad so it’s nice for him to stay in the area, but it’s a massive coup for us.”

New Signings

Josh Parker signed from Gillingham on deadline day and made his debut in the 1-0 defeat at Fleetwood, and Solly believes the forward is looking to make an impact at the club.

“A few of the guys knew Josh already, I know him from a couple of years back when he was training with us.

“He’s a good lad and he’ll be looking to kick on and get in the starting XI and score a few goals for us.

“All the boys that have come in have slotted in nicely.

“Igor (Vetokele) coming back is like a new signing as well.

“So it’s important they hit the ground running and make up for the loss of Karlan.”

Bowyer Brings....

Charlton remain in the hunt for promotion and Solly believes the difference this season to last is that under Lee Bowyer they have toughened up and found a winning mentality.

“As a team we have a bit of everything.

“We like to play out the back and play a passing style, but we’ve also shown in games this season we can dig in and mix it.

“Perhaps the biggest thing this season is we’ve gone to places where perhaps we would’ve been bullied in the past but that doesn’t happen anymore.

“We can mix it up, play when we can but when we have to battle, we can do that as well.”

Charlton welcome Southend United on Saturday.
