Chris Solly believes the Karlan Grant transfer saga didn’t disrupt the side’s momentum despite falling to a 1-0 defeat at Fleetwood on Saturday.

Grant moved to Huddersfield at the end of the transfer window but the club captain insisted the result which dropped the Addicks to fifth in the league was not a result of losing their top scorer.

“The boys were obviously aware it (the move) could happen from the form he showed in the first half of the season,” said the 28-year-old.

“Losing Karlan was a big loss but no I wouldn’t say it affected us.

“Overall the season has been successful, but there’s a long way to go.

“Fifteen games to go and we’ve put ourselves in a decent position.

“The aim at the start of the season was promotion and that’s still the aim now.”

Charlton welcome Southend United to The Valley this Saturday and the versatile defender is fully aware that a win is the bare minimum, and that they have the confidence to get to do so.

“We’ve got to respond this week, we know the quality we’ve got within the squad.

“It’s going to be a busy three months and we are going to need everyone to step up and put in performances.

“We need three points this weekend and everyone knows that.

“We’ve got two home games now and we’ve been strong at home and we’ll look to carry that on this weekend.

“The aim was promotion and the confidence is still there to get that.”
