Millwall will be looking to add a fourth Premier League club into their furnace when Everton travel down to The Den on Saturday afternoon for the fourth rounf of the FA Cup.

The Lions went on an astounding cup run during the 16/17 campaign which saw them beat Bournemouth, Watford and then defending Premier League champions Leicester City until they were knocked out by Tottenham in the quarter-finals in what was the last ever FA Cup match held at White Heart Lane.

Harris will be hoping his side can replicate their recent form which has witnessed them beat Reading, Forrest and Ipswich since Boxing day and put in an honorable performance at the Riverside where a 89th minute penalty denied them three points against Middlesbrough last weekend.

Everton on the other hand are currently having their usual mid-season slump after losing three of their last four Premier League fixtures and scraping through the third round with a 2-1 victory against League Two side, Lincoln City.

The quality of the Everton squad is undeniable, with the club boasting a £230M starting XI against Southampton last week, yet however, Millwall will fancy their chances as the atmosphere that will be generated inside a sellout Den will definitely question the mentalities of their star players.

The last time the two sides met was in January of 2006, where the Lions battled to a 1-1 at draw The Den and forced a replay. Unfortunately, to the Lions dismay former striker and now club legend Tim Cahill scored the goal that saw them knocked out of the FA Cup.

Star Man

This Is Local London:

Everton have a line up full of star players, Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Bernard or even free goal scoring center half Yerry Mina. But one man amid their ranks will be looking to use the competition to cement in the Toffee’s starting XI. That is Ademola Lookman.

The 21-year old no doubt has unbridled potential, as his debut season with Charlton Athletic saw him net ten goals in the Championship as a teenager.

Within 18-months Everton snapped him up for a cut price deal worth £11 million pounds in January 2017. He was then loaned out to Bundesliga side, RB Leipzig where he scored a late minute debut goal against Borussia Mönchengladbach. He went onto score 5 goals in 11 appearances for the German side before moving back to Merseyside in the summer.

He now finds himself on the fringes at Everton, but has been involved in recent matches. He scored in the 5-1 romping against Burnley in December and in the third round fixture against Lincoln earlier this month.

The ex-Charlton attacker will have experience playing at the Den prior to the visit on Saturday as played the full 90-minutes for the Addicks against the Lions during that debut season of his.

Despite showing in glimpses what he can offer to this Everton side, Lookman is still searching for that all round performance to propel him into being a consistent starter for the Toffees. Being from Charlton’s academy you would think he would fancy his chances against the Lions, so I would not be surprised if this match could be a huge turning point in his Everton career.

The Manager

This Is Local London:

Marco Silva departed Watford last year due to setting his sights on the Everton job and as the Hornets are currently four places above the Toffee’s in the League much speculation around his future has emerged in coming weeks.

Defeats against strugglers Southampton and Leicester have left things very sour on Merseyside and now fans are turning to the FA Cup to be able to justify another monotonous mid-table season.

Silva is a great coach nonetheless, within the space of six-months he has removed the old school stamp Big Sam put on the squad and Everton are finally playing some attractive football despite some results not going their way.

Ahead of the tie, the Portuguese also acknowledges the test his side face on Saturday at The Den as he explained: “For us as a club, it is always tough to play there against Millwall. We will have to go there to do our maximum to achieve a good result.”
