Charlton Athletic have confirmed the signing of left-back Ben Purrington from Rotherham United on loan until the end of the season.

Purrington, 22, arrives at The Valley following a loan spell at AFC Wimbledon where he played 23 games for the Dons this campaign.

It was widely known that manager Lee Bowyer wanted a left-back following the long-term injury to Lewis Page in October.

Upon singing, the left back revealed his joy in joining the promotion chasing Addicks.

“I’m delighted to get it done," said Purrington.

"I’ve played against Charlton a few times, they play good football and have some really good players so I’m looking forward to playing here.

"Every time I’ve played at The Valley, it’s been a great atmosphere. It’s a great pitch and a great stadium and I can’t wait to be on that side of things with the supporters behind me.

"Hopefully, I can help push on in this promotion campaign.

In Page's absence Chris Solly, a right-back by trade has been covering the position, whilst Toby Stevenson, despite impressing is not seen as ready to fulfil the demands of League One football yet.

Bowyer revealed his relief that the problem position has now been filled.

“Finally!" said Bowyer.

"We’ve been so unbalanced since we lost Pagey and Ben is a natural left-footer that will give us that width and get forward.

“He’s honest, steady and a good one-v-one defender that will bring us stability down the left.

"The big positive is that he’s played every game at Wimbledon and is ready to go.”

Purrington is Charlton's third signing of the window so far following the arrival of Jonny Williams and Chris Maxwell, and is expected to go in to the squad to face Shrewsbury this weekend.
