Ben Thompson’s Millwall recall has not gone down well with Portsmouth fans.
Millwall manager Neil Harris took up the option to take the midfielder back to The Den following a successful six-month loan period at Fratton Park.
Portsmouth CEO Mark Catlin confirmed that he contacted Millwall regarding a potential sale, but The Lions had no intention of letting go a player who Harris sees as a future captain of the club.
The news of his recall understandably hit a nerve with the Pompey faithful such was his importance in their quest for promotion from League One.
Thompson took to Twitter to deliver a message of thanks to Pompey, where he scored three goals in 28 appearances.
Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone @officialpompey what a club to play for. I have enjoyed every minute of it, staff, players, fans have all been ledge and what a game to end on! See you all soon 👊💙 pic.twitter.com/Ulq6TT5TdM

Needless to say, Pompey fans weren’t happy to see Thompson head back up the A3 but were united in their opinion of the midfielder and his efforts in helping Pompey to the summit of League One.
Reading this is worse than a breakup text.

Genuinely sad to see you go back, the Pompey fans love you and know a class player when they see one. You will always be welcome at Fratton Park. Wish you 100% success at Millwall , another proper football club with passionate fans. Don’t forget us Ben we won’t forget you.

It is thought Thompson will go straight in to the squad to face Blackburn on Saturday as Millwall look for their fifth straight win.
