Lee Bowyer is delighted with Mark Marshall after the winger came off the bench to score in Charlton’s win against AFC Wimbledon.

His well-struck shot found bottom-right corner of the net and beat goalkeeper Joe McDonnell following Krystian Bielik’s exquisite pass to complete a smart move.

It was just nine minutes into coming on for Ben Reeves that he would get on the scoresheet for the first time in League One since Charlton's victory away to Bury in January last season.

It comes as Bowyer spoke about his time working with the 31-year-old on the training ground.

He said: “I don't know if you noticed [but] can you tell me another time that he'd make that run and be in that area to receive the ball this time last season? No.

“Now he's taking on board everything I've been trying to tell him for the last month. He's now finally...it's all clicking with him.

“He's arriving, he scored a goal the other week [against Mansfield Town in the FA Cup] - he arrived across the full back, got across the full back instead of waiting outside the 18-yard box. You're never going to score from there.

“Now he's running beyond people. Don't just keep coming to feet, everyone wants you to come feet, that's their strength. When you're playing in front of them it's their strength, when you're making runs in behind that's your strength - use your strengths.

“I'm over the moon. I just said to him after [the game], I gave him a cuddle and said, 'I'm over the moon for you Marsh'.

“He works hard, you can't knock his work rate - his work rate is unreal. I know that, and I've known that, all the time but it's the end product side.

“When you're bringing someone on you have to be able to trust that they're going to make a difference and a contribution, and maybe make something happen or score, and that's what he's doing now so I'm over the moon for him.”
