Day 16 of your Charlton Christmas Calendar sees us look at Jamie Ward.

Despite not featuring regularly for Charlton this season the impact the on-loan star has had is not to be taken for granted.

“We’re lucky to have him,” Lee Bowyer said of Ward. That is telling of how highly he’s though of at The Valley.

“Cleverness, awareness. You can tell he’s played up in the Championship, he’s very clever, an international player. Ward brings something different we didn’t have.”

Arriving from Nottingham Forest the wide-man had a point to prove after being frozen out at the City ground.

The Northern Irishman was bought in by Bowyer to add some much-needed experience to the side, and along with Darren Pratley who arrived at the same time, they started the season doing just that.

Arriving initially on a loan deal until January, Bowyer used the 33-year-old wisely earlier in the season knowing back to back weekend and mid-week games would be too much for the winger.

His delightful goal in the 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers showcased the talent he possesses, but just as his season was taking off the Charlton injury curse struck and he has not played since the end of November.

Despite his deal ending next month, Ward has embraced the club ethos and spoke of his desire to stay until the end of the season.

“I’d enjoy staying until the end of the season, hopefully longer,” Ward said last month.

“As long as everything is right for everyone. But the most important thing is trying to get this club promoted and helping them in the next few months.”

With three games left until the new year, it would be disappointing not to see Ward overcome injury to turn out for the Addicks again.

It would also be a surprise if that in January negotiations to extend the journeyman’s stay aren’t agreed such has been his impact.
