Jake Cooper has ended speculation over his future and singed a new deal with Millwall.

Club policy is not reveal the details of the contract but a ‘long-term’ deal was announced on Friday and Cooper admitted it was “great to finally get the deal done.”

Cooper has been an ever present in Neil Harris’ side this term and his performances had garnered interest from a host of clubs, notably Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.

“We’re definitely delighted,” Harris told the club website.

Cooper joined the club in January 2017 from Reading on loan before making the move permanent in that summer. The contract extension signifies a huge coup for Harris and Millwall.

“Since Jake came into the football club on loan in League One, his performances have been outstanding," continued Harris.

“He has certainly been one of our standout performers, was our Young Player of the Year last year and has been a huge part of our success over a period of time. He deserves a new contract, and he deserves to be rewarded.”

The news will breath a sigh of relief from the Lions fans as they can now look towards climbing the league table with one of their stand-out performers this season.

Sitting two points from safety the new deal will warn off any suitors in the January transfer window allowing Cooper, and Millwall, to concentrate on their league form.

"I’m obviously thrilled to sign long-term here,” said Cooper.

“The manager and the coaching staff have looked after me really well since joining the club, and I’m delighted to get the chance to carry on working with them and the great squad we’ve got here, to push onto bigger and better things,” said Cooper.

“There’s plenty of belief and confidence in the group, and we’ve just got to back that up with a result. Like we showed last year, it can just take one win on the road or even a good win at home for things to completely change.”

Millwall travel to Preston on Saturday.
