He may wear number twenty-eight, but Ryan Leonard is without doubt Millwall's number eight on the pitch.

According to Sky Sports form table, Leonard has been Millwall’s best player since he signed on transfer deadline.

His loan move from Sheffield United will become a £1.25million permanent move in January.

Despite having a volatile pre-season, his debut against rivals Leeds United offered the Millwall fans a reason to get excited. As well as taming Samuel Siaz, it was his long throw that opened the scoring for the Lions after he propelled the ball into the box and Jake Cooper’s flick was met by Jed Wallace at the back post.

His long throw has been a weapon for the Lions this season, with it also unlocking Ipswich town a game where Leonard scored his first goal for his new side. An audacious lob from 30-yards is probably the best way score your debut goal for a new club and Leonard quickly followed up with another in the 4-3 defeat to Norwich.

Leonard is a player that the Lions fans love. He seems to always give 110% and is a box-to-box midfielder that they yearned for. His physicality and work rate defines him as a player but also defines Millwall as a club so it was always going to be a perfect match.

Leonard’s first half of the season has been superb and I am sure his second half will be even better as he continues to settle in.
