Here's how the Palace players rated in their 3-1 derby defeat at Brighton.

Wayne Hennessey –

A shaky start got worse as the first half progressed. Looked poor from set pieces opting to punch rather than catch. Couldn’t do much for the goals and was provided little protection in front of him. Quiet second half as expected against ten men 5

Aaron Wan-Bissaka –

It’s not often the right-back has been got the better of this season but time and time again he was exposed down the flank by Jose Izquierdo and Benardo. His head dropped after the third goal which will be more worrying. 5

James Tomkins –

After singing his praises for the past fortnight, this was possibly the centre-backs worse performance of his career, let alone season. Caught in possession countless times and a number of miss-timed tackles, his reading of the game was not up to scratch and Florin Androne goal showed an alarming lack of pace from the former West Ham man.

4

Mamadou Sakho –

Set the tone from the first second with a miss-timed header to give Brighton a corner. Combined with Tomkins in a Laurel ‘n’ Hardy moment for Brighton’s third.

5

Patrick van Aanholt –

The left back was possibly Palace’s bets player. Both in attack and definitely in defence. Created the best opening in the first half for this visitors which they should’ve converted. Kept Solly March quiet all game and can’t be blamed for the soft goals conceded. 6

Luka Milivojevic –

The captain’s poor form continued in the derby. Should’ve found the back of the net from Zaha’s cut back despite the heroic defending on the line. Another effort of his found row Z when striking from 30-yards, should stick to shooting from the spot. Outrun in the middle of the park, despite the man advantage. Another bad day at the office. 5

Cheikhou Kouyate –

Quiet game from the big midfielder. Out run in the middle of the park which is surprising. Looked sluggish and was rightly hauled off shortly after the break. Saw very little of him both in defence and attack. 5

Max Meyer –

The German was back to his quiet self of early season. First half was crowded out so quickly he couldn’t impose his game on Brighton. Second half with a man to the good he found a little more space but in a team needing three goals, who don’t score, it was a tough ask.

5

James McArthur –

Unfortunate to give the penalty away but sadly it set the home side on their way. Fairly industrious as you’d expect but even the Scotsman’s passing was off today. He’ll be disappointed after a good run of form. 6

Andros Townsend –

After the highs of Saturday’s win over Burnley, this was a low for Townsend. Predictably looking to cut inside and get a shot off, the winger frustrated as he must’ve left his shooting boots in the dressing room. 6

Wilfried Zaha –

A frustrating day for Zaha. Offered little protection from referee Kevin Friend and you can only sympathise with the Ivorian. If he tries to stay up- he doesn’t get the foul, if he goes down- he’s a diver. Great skill to win the penalty. Palace’s best threat, as usual. 7

Subs:

Alexander Sorloth –

Provided the focal point that Palace desperately needed against a powerful back-line. 6

Jeffrey Schlupp –

Provided more legs upfront but offered little more than that. 5
