Millwall’s 2-0 defeat by Birmingham mid-week has caused manager Neil Harris to re-shuffling his pack for their trip to Bristol City on Sunday.

Harris was disappointed in his side’s performance which saw midfielder Ryan Leonard sent off, but conceded his side were not up to scratch.

“11v11 Birmingham were better than us,” said Harris.

“It pains me to say it but they were better than us in the basics in football that I demand but take for granted for my side.

“With 10 men, I think we had a right go and do not get me wrong a right go for this club is the bare minimum. The players showed character and desire and some quality at times.”

A James Meredith own goal and a Michael Morrison strike was enough to see the Blues take the points back to St Andrew’s after a timid display by the hosts.

“The second goal was a killer really, It took the belief out of us to get something.

“While it was 1-0 and we was on top during the game we was a little open to the counter attack but I always thought a chance would come out way."

Leonard will be serving a one game suspension following receiving two yellow cards, while Lee Gregory was forced to be substituted.

“The first one is a yellow card, the second one my immediate reaction is that Lenny got the ball but it is the follow through that has done him.

“In the modern game you go into a challenge like that you always put yourself at danger of a card. Without seeing it from the TV, there is no complaints.”

Millwall’s luck with suspensions and injuries was furthered after Lee Gregory was limped off in the 79th minute.

“Gregory, we are not sure. It has his stomach and groin area tightening up and we will have to assess him tomorrow.

Harris hinted at due to the strenuous circumstances of Wednesday’s match and the injury crisis he may have to invite a few younger players into the senior squad.

“I will have to think about shuffling the pack, probably sixty minutes against eleven men is difficult for the ten.

“So yes, it might be an opportunity with the injuries we have for young players to come into the squad.

The Lions travel to Bristol City on Sunday and will be in search of gaining their first away win of the season, which Harris said he now is demanding his players to win.

“What I have just told the players is that we have put ourselves under pressure by not picking up points on the road. That’s what put us under more pressure tonight because we cannot just rely on winning our home games all the time, you have to pick points up on the road and that starts Sunday.

“I expect my Millwall team now, to go and win games away from home.”
