Charlton Women fell to a narrow 1-0 loss against FA Women's Championship leaders Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

A solitary strike from Jessica Naz, after a defensive mistake, sealed all three points for the North Londoners, as the Addicks slipped to just their second defeat of the campaign.

Chances were few and far between, with Lily Agg having Charlton's best opportunities from long range. The striker was also denied what looked a certain penalty after being brought down late in the match.

Goalkeeper Katie Startup made three impressive saves to keep her side in the clash, while Sarah Wiltshire hit the crossbar for the hosts, who were generally comfortable in seeing the match out in the closing stages.

On the Tottenham game and start to the season, defender Amelia Ritchie said:

"It’s fine margins at this level. I felt we didn’t have many chances; they had the better of the chances. But you couldn’t fault out work rate, it just didn’t fall for us today. We’ve got to work next week in training and try to get back to winning ways against Crystal Palace.

"We’re new to the league and we’ve started better than a lot of people would have expected. We’re going to lose games, you can’t expect a perfect record. We’ve just got to keep pushing on. It’s just how we bounce back from those knocks.

On the upcoming local derby against Crystal Palace, Ritchie said:

"We need to bounce back now. We want to get the three points because we’re used to winning in this league. Sunday just wasn’t our day, so we’ve just got to work hard in training and get back to winning ways.

"It will be a big game and I am sure both sides will be up for it. We've just got to stay focused, stick to the game plan and keep doing what we’ve been working on each week and we should be fine.

"Hopefully we can get a big crowd into The Oakwood. We'll do our best to send the Charlton supporters home happy and keep up our 100% record in Crayford."
