Lee Bowyer believes fans at the Valley have played a big part in Charlton's good home form this season.

Joe Aribo and Karlan Grant’s two goals in 15 minutes helped the Addicks see off Doncaster Rovers for their fifth league win on home turf.

With 17 points, only Barnsley and Luton Town have gained more during their respective League One campaigns so far.

Bowyer insists players feed off the supporters’ constant backing which can boost performances when they are needed most.

He said: “You have to have [good support at home]. If you're going to go anywhere and do anything you have to have good home form, and we have.

“The fans are a big part of that. I've said that. I've played for teams and the home fans are unreal, and they do make a difference.

“We've scored late goals this season, which we'd never really done before. It's not a coincidence.

“The fans keep singing and driving you on and, as players, you react. Players are entertainers; you sing their name and they're like, 'yes, that's for me!'.

“I don't care if they say, 'I didn't hear'. They're lying.

“They're entertainers and they want to entertain the fans, and the fans pay their money and they want to be entertained, and at home, I think we're doing that very well.”

Charlton have only failed to score twice at home through 10 games this season – against Fleetwood Town and Peterborough United.

What’s more is Bowyer’s men are fond of scoring early, with seven of their 14 goals arriving in the first 45 minutes at the Valley.

The Addicks boss also spoke of his appreciation towards the constant support during the Doncaster clash.

When asked how he feels it, he added: “I know the fans like me, I know that. I don't need them to sing but it's nice to hear and they're just showing their appreciation for the hard work that I'm putting in - myself, Jacko [Johnnie Jackson], all the staff.

“I'm very grateful for that and I think they're enjoying what they're seeing. I think that shows, especially at home. We're a very good side at home.

“The fans were singing after the game had finished, it's unreal again. They've been great again and I asked them in the beginning, from the day I took over to just stick behind us, get behind the team, and they're doing it every game.

“We're trying to repay them with the fight and the results. It's a long way to go and it's going to be a good journey.”
