Myles Judd believes Leyton Orient need to put together another record breaking unbeaten run if they are to challenge for the National League title this season.

The O’s returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory against Maidenhead United on Saturday, having been condemned to their first loss of the season the previous weekend thanks to a 1-0 home defeat to Sutton United.

Prior to that result, Orient had broken the club record for their longest unbeaten start to the season, with their 5-1 win over Braintree Town making it 13 games without defeat for the O’s.

During that record breaking start, the O’s had shown plenty of character to grind out results, scoring late equalisers against the likes of Salford City, Gateshead and FC Halifax Town away from home, while also holding on to secure slender wins against Chesterfield as well as Boreham Wood.

With another three points in the bag against Maidenhead, O’s academy graduate Judd now feels that Orient need to put together another unbeaten run if they want to turn their promotion hopes into reality.

He said: “It was brilliant to be involved in the club’s record unbeaten start to the season. We need to build a platform again to try and get another unbeaten record going to try and win the league.

“It was really important to come back from a defeat. I thought today was a bit scrappy at some stages but we dug in and got the win and a clean sheet, so I’m pleased.”

The young right-back had to wait patiently for his chance at the start of the campaign, having been left out of the match-day squad for Orient’s first three league games.

But the 19-year-old seized his chance when he was named in the starting line-up against Maidstone United in August and hasn’t looked back since, keeping the fit again Sam Ling out of the side in recent weeks.

The right-back, who was named in England C’s contingency squad for their fixture against Estonia’s Under-23s, has impressed with his disciplined performances and has been a part of a resolute Orient defence which has conceded just 10 goals so far.

Alongside Judd, Josh Coulson and Marvin Ekpiteta have impressed with their consistent displays at the heart of Orient’s defence, with the latter being named as the National League’s Player of the Month late last week.

Judd praised the duo’s impact on his game and also believes the friendly rivalry with fellow right-back Ling has been beneficial during the opening weeks of the campaign.

He said: “If you’ve got two players in the same position, then you spur each other on to do as best as you can.

“It’s good to play alongside such an experienced player like Josh Coulson. He’s always giving me good information and Marvin is such a good player as he’s covering and helping out all the time so it’s good to play with them.

“I waited patiently for my chance and hopefully if I can keep playing well, I’ll stay in the team.”
