Millwall manager Neil Harris said that his team got back to basics on the training ground and reminded players what they are good at after the Lions beat Aston Villa 2-1.

The victory sees Millwall shoot out of the relegation zone after they ended a string of winless games against Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s a nice feeling, I am delighted for my players they deserved that. They worked tirelessly. We have had some horrendous luck and we have hit the woodwork again today, I would love to see the stats to see what team hits the post or the cross bar most because we must be right at the top of the tree," said Harris.

“We dug in, we showed character to come from behind again. We played like a Millwall team at The Den, that’s important.

“The boys have been great. The character and the attitude to train is first class, you would not know if we were top of the league or bottom of the league but that’s just down to the lads.

“We know where we are in this division and why we won’t be at the top of this league so we make the most of it and get on with it.

“I have talked about individuals not being good enough, but every player who has gone on that pitch has played to the best of their ability and it is no surprise that we have had two top performances where we should have got six points but only got four.”

Lee Gregory has been Millwall’s standout player so far this season and against Villa he proved that idea again with an outstanding performance.

Harris suggested that Gregory’s form is due to the striker going back to basics and utilising his strengths.

“We are playing to Lee Gregory’s strengths at the moment. In our poor run of results, we have not been at our best and not played to individual strengths and sometimes you just need to go back to basics and remind players what they are good at.

“We will get back to clean sheet mentality, that’s where we want to be and that’s why we were so good at the back end of last season."
