Lee Bowyer expects his team to deliver a performance on Saturday that justified the hype prior to their 5-3 humbling at Scunthorpe on Tuesday night.

Charlton’s six game unbeaten streak came to an end in controversial and dramatic fashion but the Addicks manager is confident his side will bounce back this weekend as they welcome 14th placed Coventry to the Valley.

“Saturday is massive” Bowyer told the club website.

“No team wants to go and not win the game after you’ve just lost. I know I’m going to get the reaction I want on Saturday.

“I have winners in there [the dressing room] and I know it’s hurt them as much as it’s hurt me and everybody to do with the football club. I have no doubt that, come Saturday, everyone who comes to the game will see the reaction we want.”

Bowyer remained upbeat ahead the weekend’s game and reflected on the positives his side can take from their defeat mid-week.

“The way we moved the ball at times [on Tuesday] was unreal and that was the positive I took from it. We created chance after chance. We missed an open goal, hit the inside of the post, missed one on ones. It’s just crazy. How we’ve not won that game is beyond me but we didn’t and we have to move on.

“Tuesday’s game was a crazy game. The run was good whilst it lasted but it brings everyone back to reality and now we go again.”

Bowyer gave an update on his side’s injury woes and it seems the international break has come at a convenient time as his thread bear squad, coupled with injuries need a rest.

It was confirmed that left back Lewis Page was playing with a slight groin injury and will miss the weekend’s game after pulling up on Tuesday night. It means that Krystian Bielik who has returned to training could be called upon in centre-defence allowing Naby Sarr to fill the gap at full back.

“We were trying to get him(Page) to the international break. Hopefully he might be back shortly after that.

“It is just our luck at the moment but we’ll adapt. Like I have said before, one door closes and it opens for someone else to come in and stake a claim.”

Bowyer claims he’s yet to field his strongest line up this season due to injuries, pointing to the absence of Tariqe Fosu who was integral to Charltons surge at the back end of last season.

“He has started the last two games even though we wouldn’t have wanted him starting Tuesday night really, but I had no-one else who can do what he can do. It was just asking a bit too much as he looks a bit rusty.

“I haven’t been able to pick a consistent side for two games on the trot. But that’s why you have a squad. It shows how well the players have done with the chopping and changing. We’ll have to do the same on Saturday.”

Darren Pratley will miss Saturday’s fixture due to suspension.
