Mamadou Sakho gave away a late penalty as Patrick van Aanholt’s stunning second-half strike wasn’t enough for Crystal Palace to share the spoils with AFC Bournemouth.

David Brooks fired the Cherries into the lead when cracked the underside of the bar with a curling effort after just five minutes.

It took a while but van Aanholt found the net when he rifled the ball past Asmir Begovic, courtesy of a deft Wilfried Zaha through pass.

Sakho’s oustretched arm clipped Jefferson Lerma in the face and enabled Junior Stanislas to convert from 12 yards out to replenish Bournemouth’s original lead.

Here’s how we rated Crystal Palace’s players…

Wayne Hennessey – 6 – Couldn’t do anything for the first goal, he was let down by his team-mates’ defending. Shame about the penalty given the two brilliant stops he made late on.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7 – Shaky start, got caught out a couple times but began to settle. Improved after the restart and showed his quality.

James Tomkins – 7 – Made a crucial interception and tackle early on, and continued in the same vein for most of the match. Shown a yellow after becoming embroiled in a spat.

Mamadou Sakho – 6 – Perhaps Palace’s star performer, despite the early goal, up until he gave away the penalty. It was going so well…

Patrick van Aanholt – 7 – Great strike made by a great (offside) run. A poor touch late on nearly proved costly for Palace.

Max Meyer – 6 – Not as influential as he could’ve been for his first full start for the club. Was unlucky for his volleyed effort to hit McArthur. Replaced with Cheikhou Kouyaté.

Luka Milivojevic – 7 – Didn’t really put a foot wrong, made some clever passes time and again.

James McArthur – 7 – Got heavily involved at both ends, as per. One of the more impressive showings. Replaced with Jeffrey Schlupp.

Andros Townsend – 6 – Contributed at both ends but produced little of note as crosses didn’t have the desired result. Bit of a silly booking for him to get.

Wilfried Zaha – 6 – Ran the hard yards off the ball but was largely ineffective in the first-half. Forced to switch wings, he made a great assist for the equaliser.

André Ayew – 5 – Had very few chances or shots, the service to him was so minimum. Replaced with Alexander Sorloth, looked unimpressed when being substituted.
