Any potential move from West Ham United for Jack Wilshere may hit the buffers after reports that the Hammers are only willing to offer the midfielder a one-year-deal.

The 26-year-old, who has been a part of the Arsenal first team for 10 years but has consistently suffered from fitness problems, is said to be on a 10-man shortlist of players being monitored by new United boss Manuel Pellegrini and director of football Mario Husillos.

However, it has been suggested that Wilshere may turn to other suitors over a disagreement about the length of the deal being offered, after claims that the England midfielder wants greater security than the West Ham hierarchy are currently prepared to offer.

It remains to be seen whether this stumbling block proves terminal in the Hammers’ bid to lure the mercurial midfielder to the London Stadium.

But having suffered the dual disappointment of being released by Arsenal and missing out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad, Wilshere will be keen to provide clarity on his future amid speculation linking him with moves domestically and abroad.

Indeed, Wilshere has been heavily linked with a transfer to London rivals Crystal Palace as he prepares to revive a career that has stalled in recent years.
