Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves made an impressive $71.5million globally on opening weekend. The heist-fantasy film, based on the well-known board game, was met with extremely positive reviews from both critics and fans, beating its box office expectations and arguably many audience members', expecting another action film with an excess of CGI.

Despite being based off a board game with a highly devoted following, the film requires no prior knowledge to watch and enjoy, making it a great hit for families over the Easter holidays. It follows Edgin, played by the well-cast Chris Pine, who along with his partner in crime Holga, Michelle Rodriguez, is looking for redemption after a stint in jail. Audiences follow the charming Pine and his band of thieves, Rodriguez, Justice Smith and Sophia Lillis, to retrieve a long lost relic from Hugh Grant's villain, who very much resembles his character in Paddington 2.

This film is witty and well-paced, with a run time of just over 2 hours, keeping audiences hooked on every escape, battle and plan. Also, with a surprising cameo from nine-time academy award nominee Bradley Cooper, and many hilarious lines from Bridgertion's Rege-Jean Paige's frustratingly perfect Xenk, this story never seems to trip up.

There were questions about the success of Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves after the previous attempt at a Dungeons and Dragons film in 2000 that was, safe to say, a fail. However, where this previous attempt gained a 9% Rotten Tomatoes score, the 2023 Dungeons and Dragons earned a 90% critics score as well as a 93% audience score. As well as this, the film exceeded box office expectations, beating Keanu Reeves' John Wick Chapter Four on opening weekend. So far Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Amonst Thieves has made $160 million, making it the 9th highest grossing film of 2023.

It is not difficult to understand how this film has become a success, as whether its characters are looking for redemption, romance or revenge, this hilarious fantasy flick will certainly have what you are looking for.
