COMBINING slick CGI effects with original NASA footage, the third series of The Universe whizzes through the science of space faster than a comet with a warp speed hyper drive stuck up its tail.

From parallel universes to the possiblility of travelling at light speed, eminent scientists from NASA and around the world attempt to unravel the mysteries of the universe and predict the future of space exploration.

It's a frequently fascinating journey through a subject which has captured the imagination of mankind for centuries.

But it's exhausting viewing, with the show's makers cramming as much information as possible into each short episode, leaving no time to breath or digest what you have just watched.

The frenetic soundtrack also distracts rather than compliments the narrative and it sadly feels more like a race to the finish line than a serious documentary.

Fast-paced and buzzing with sound bites, this is science for the i-pod generation. Militant science geeks, who prefer a more relaxed sojourn through physics, should probably look elsewhere for their entertainment.

The Universe: Season Three is out now on DVD and Blu-ray.
