A Short Stay in Switzerland is an emotionally gripping film which is based on a true story.

It follows the harrowing decision by Dr Anne Turner, superbly played by Julie Walters, to end her life after being diagnosed with a fatal neurological condition.

Dr Turner decides to travel to the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland to end her life after recently witnessing the demise of her husband, who had suffered a similar condition her own.

She made the decision much to the distress of her three children, Edward, Jessica and Sophie.

The film is gripping and emotional and to watch the journey of a successful, career focussed woman turn into a frail, desperate lady was distressing.

Particularly moving was the scene where Dr Turner takes the barbiturate.

Assisted suicide is a controversial, sensitive subject but director Simon Curtis handled it brilliantly.

The drama is very thought provoking and really does make you think just how lucky you are.
