Not even Morgan Freeman and Antonio Banderas can save Thick as Thieves from its pointless twists, made-for-TV-script and predictable plot, writes Zee Gaines Keith Ripley (Morgan Freeman), a renowned thief who has eluded the police for years, plans a heist to steal the last two original Fabergé Eggs ever created. He finds a partner in Gabrielle (Antonio Banderas) and teaches him the Thieves’ Code by which they must live.

With the Russian mob on their back, they embark upon the seemingly impossible. This is Thick as Thieves.

Unfortunately for this weak movie, it features a security system with nothing new; voice recognition, handprints, so laughably easy, even Puss-in-Boots could break in.

News Shopper: Morgan Freeman and Antonio Banderas

Ripley shows no mastery of his art and Gabrielle is questionable as a partner of either expertise or value. Instead Morgan Freeman is put on display as an actor just boosting the retirement coffers with a lacklustre made-for-TV-script, barely breaking an acting sweat.

An awkward stomach-turning bedroom scene from the token pretty female (Radha Mitchell) and Banderas just serves to reflect the emptiness of the storyline. Their relationship lacks substance and credibility so denies its purpose as a valid contribution to the plot.

The moment Antonio Banderas announces his name is Gabby, not even his incredible sexual persona could save this movie.

Riddled with dodgy pointless plot twists, and nothing slick or clever as expected of a heist movie, use your 100 minutes better, by, say, watching the tumble dryer spin.

Thick as Thieves (15) is out on DVD now.
