Spider-Man phenomenon Tom Holland has revealed that he will be “taking a break” from acting after his recent role in The Crowded Room.

The new Apple TV+ series is inspired by Daniel Keyes’ non-fiction novel titled The Minds of Billy Milligan, which tells the story of a young man’s arrest for a crime and the investigator who tries to solve it.

“Holland plays a character loosely based on ‘the Campus Rapist’ Billy Milligan, a US man who claimed to have 24 alternate personalities and was the first individual to be found not guilty by reason of insanity on the basis of dissociative identity disorder,” reports The Guardian.

The 27-year-old also executively produced the show which features Mamma Mia! icon Amanda Seyfried and Emmy Rossum.

Tom Holland to 'take a break' from acting for a year

As he is currently promoting the thriller series, Holland said working on The Crowded Mind “broke him” in a recent interview with Extra.

He explained: “I’m no stranger to hard work. I’ve lived by the idea that hard work is good work. Then again, the show did break me. There did come a time where I needed a break and disappeared and went to Mexico for a week and had time on a beach and laid low.

“I’m now taking a year off, and that is a result of how difficult this show was. I am excited to see how it turns out. I feel like our hard work wasn’t in vain.”

“It was a tough time, for sure. We were exploring certain emotions that I have definitely never experienced before. And then on top of that, being a producer, dealing with the day-to-day problems that come with any film set, just added that extra level of pressure,” he added.

When is The Crowded Room on TV and how to watch?

The Crowded Room will be airing on Apple TV+ on Friday, June 9. It was written by Akiva Goldsman who also wrote A Beautiful Mind.

It includes 10 episodes as part of the miniseries.
