Two women have been rushed to hospital after a pedestrian was hit by a car in south London. 

Multiple ambulance services, including an air ambulance, were sent to the scene on Brixton Road at around 12.40pm this afternoon.

Two people, one of whom is believed to be the driver of the car, were treated at the scene before being taking to hospital "as a priority."

Police said they are awaiting an update on their conditions.

There have been no arrests at this stage, as enquiries continue. 

Road closures remain in place from Brixton Road junction with Loughborough Road.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 12.38pm today (14 July) to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Brixton Road, SW9.

"We sent two ambulance crews, hazardous area response teams, a command support vehicle, a medic in a car, and an incident response officer.

"We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance.

"We treated two people at the scene and took them both to hospital as a priority."
