A person has died after being hit by a train at Berrylands station yesterday (January 21).

The incident happened around 10pm according to British Transport Police.

Responding to a request for comment, a spokesperson for the transport authority said:

"Shortly after 10pm yesterday (21/1/20), officers from British Transport Police were called to the line close to Berrylands station after reports of a person being struck by a train.

"Officers attended alongside paramedics however a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene."

They added that the death was not being treated as suspicious.

"The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner," BTP said.

South Western Railway (SWR) reported delays and cancellations in the area yesterday evening and offered advice to passengers.

Meanwhile Network Rail Wessex who help manage lines in the area confirmed the news online and offered their condolences.

"Dear passengers. It is with regret someone was hit by a train in the #Surbiton area last night.

"Our thoughts must go out to the person’s family and friends and all the staff who dealt with the incident. This did impact services into @LondonWaterloo," a spokesperson said on Twitter around 3am.
