Stuntmen from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are to jump off the roof of Epsom Square to kick off Surrey's first international film festival later this month.

The stuntmen will be performing a fight scene on the High Street on October 26, dressed as Darth Maul, Princess Leia and Darth Vader, showing off their lightsaber skills.

They will be led by fight choreographer Steen Young who appeared in Rogue One, as well as Transformers, Les Miserables, Game of Thrones, Batman Begins and Kick-Ass.

The Satisfied Eye International Film Festival, which runs from October 26 to 28, will also see DJ Kobie Wan entertain the crowds and a live band playing the Star Wars cantina song.

Before the opening stunt, former fencing champion Nick Payne will be giving youngsters a masterclass in how to fight with lightsabers.

The festival will feature screenings of 35 new films including UK and European premieres and a street food market where visitors can sample kangaroo, ostrich and crocodile burgers.

Chris Hastings, the festival’s artistic director, said: ‘We really wanted the festival to capture the fun, excitement and craziness of film.

“The opening ceremony will be a true ‘were you there’ moment that we’re hoping everyone will be talking about it the following day. PT Barnum would have been proud of it.

“Where else will you be able to watch Rogue One stuntmen perform and enjoy Obi Wan on the decks after learning how to fight with a lightsaber and all while eating a crocodile burger.”

Budding filmmakers will get a chance to pitch to industry professionals such as Elaine Grainger, a casting director, who has worked with and cast Glenn Close, Gerard Butler, Gary Oldman, Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson.

French actor Dominique Pinon will be present to introduce The Sleeper by the River, a dark comedy based on the book “Les Bottes Rouge” (The Red Boots) by Franz Bartelt.

The festival will close with a red carpet awards ceremony at the historic Queen’s Stand at Epsom Racecourse.
