An architect and urban designer is heading merged departments at the University of Greenwich which caters for more than 1,500 students and staff.
The school of architecture and construction, formerly the schools of architecture and landscape and landscape and construction, has appointed Dr Richard Hayward to take the department forward.
The professor has combined teaching, practice and research during his career.
He the is co-founder and executive co-editor of Urban Design International.
Dr Hayward said: "I am delighted to join the university and the excellent multi-disciplinary team at the school."
The university has excellent records in architecture and construction.
Recently its landscape and housing courses received top marks in a higher education inspection.
