A woman celebrated her century on what was a particularly poignant Remembrance Day.

Constance Prout, known as Connie, celebrated her 100th with a big party at Hamilton Nursing Home, Surbiton.

Singer Tommy Parsons provided the entertainment singing classics from the 1950s.

Mrs Prout suffers from dementia so is unable to remember a lot from her life, including her wartime experiences. Home staff member Kamaljeet Gill said: “While she suffers from memory loss, she’s still able to sing along.”

Mrs Prout, an ex-senior bank officer at Barclays, was married, but never had children.

Instead, she celebrated her birthday with her niece Josephine Brown, and her three children.

Mrs Prout was born in Walton on November 11 1911, and has lived at the care home for a decade.

Activities manager Eirian Williams said: “As the years have progressed her illness has meant that her participation in overall activities has gradually diminished.

“But, throughout her time here, and still today, Connie is cheerful and happy as larry, often singing sweetly and softly to herself.

“In her frailty she is still a star - and always will be.”
