Lee Talbot fired a hat-trick and helped Potters Bar Town to a decisive win over their title rivals, their 17th success in the last 19 league games.
Though Steve Smart's crosses created several chances, Town had to wait until the 43rd minute before Talbot opened the scoring from Matt Chalkley's cross.
Though Abbey equalised early in the second half, Town regained the lead when Talbot converted Smart's through ball, and he punished a defensive error for his hat-trick.
Leon Archer twice capitalised on good work by sub Darrren Ferry to complete the nap hand.
æIn midweeek, Potters Bar crashed 4-1 to Colney Heath in the Potters Bar Charity Cup semi-final. Talbot was on target with a late consolation goal.
