A 35-year-old woman who tripped over and was dragged under a moving tram was rushed to hospital in a serious condition this morning.

The woman is believed to have been running to catch the tram outside East Croydon Station when she tripped and fell.

The London Ambulance Service sent a fast responder and two ambulances.

The woman was treated at the scene before being taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting.

She suffered head and back injuries.

A spokesman for London Ambulance Service said: "We were called just after 8am this morning to reports of a road traffic accident.

"We treated a 35-year-old woman for head and back injuries and took her to St George's hospital as a priority."
