AN all-male dance group has won through to the semi-final of a TV competition - with the help of three Waltham Forest residents.

Thorsten Dreyer, of Brettenham Road, Walthamstow, is part of dance group, Guyz in Sync, who are through to the final stages of TV talent show, Got to Dance, which will be shown on Sky One on Sunday (February 6).

The 12 dancers, aged 27 to 50, who claim to be UK's only all-male Latin and Ballroom Formation dance team, are coached by Heather Gladding, 48, and Hadass Armon, 43, both of Wood street in Walthamstow.

Mr Dreyer, originally from Germany, trained in Latin and Ballroom dancing from the age of 13 but stopped when he reached 21 to pursue other interests.

the 34-year-old took it up again three years ago when he started classes at Studio La Danza dance school in Islington, which is co-owned by Mrs Armon.

Mr Dreyer, a policy officer at a London borough council, said: “Being in the Got to Dance semi-finals is very exciting and there is a lot at stake.

“We are squeezing in as much rehearsal time as we can and it’s a challenge to juggle that with my job.

“Dancing in Guyz in Sync really gave me a chance to do something I had never done before.

“It is not just about one couple but it is about synchronisation and focusing on everyone else and it is also a social thing.”

The group, which was formed in 2009, won their first competition at the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) sports event World Outgames in Copenhagen.

Ms Armon added: “This is an amazing opportunity to bring the beauty and power of same-sex dancing to a wider audience.”
