A former actor charged with the murder of his severely disabled wife remains in custody after his defence team requested his bail hearing be postponed.
Stuart Mungall, 70, appeared at the Old Bailey on Wednesday for a brief hearing, during which it was agreed a bail application could be made on December 16 to give his counsel more time to prepare.
Mr Mungall - the star of the original Yorkie bar adverts - was charged with the murder of his 69-year-old wife, Joan, on Saturday after she was found dead at the couple’s home in Hendham Road, Tooting, by emergency services the previous day.
Mrs Mungall, who was wheelchair-bound and battling a serious degenerative disease, ran the now boarded-up Patio garden centre, in Tooting Bec Road, with her husband before the pair were forced to close the business due to her worsening health.
Friends of the family this week told the Wandsworth Guardian the couple were devoted to each other - as well as being popular figures in the community.
Several friends have contacted this newspaper offering messages of support to Mr Mungall, who has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
