A SERVICE of commemoration will take place at RAF Uxbridge tomorrow, Saturday, September 4.
The service is being held at the 11 Group Operations Room memorial, and will take place in the presence of the Deputy Ambassador of Poland, the Commander of the Polish Air Force and the Station Commander RAF Northolt.
The Battle of Britain was controlled from the 11 Group Operations Room bunker, 70 foot underground.
Following the service a replica Hurricane in the livery of the Polish No 303 (Kościuszko) Squadron as flown by its commander, Flying Officer (later General) Witold Urbanowicz, will be unveiled in the presence of his son. 303 Squadron was the highest scoring squadron in the Battle of Britain with 126 confirmed victories.
A flypast of a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire and Hurricane will take place at 1045am.
Following the flypast, the annual memorial service commemorating the 1,900 fallen Polish airmen will take place at the newly refurbished Polish War Memorial, South Ruislip.
The Duke of Kent will lay a wreath on behalf of HM The Queen. Surviving veterans of the Polish Air Force, the Ambassador of Poland, senior representatives of the Royal Air Force, both serving and retired, and civic leaders will be in attendance.
A flypast of a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire and Hurricane will take place at 12.15am.
