ENFIELD residents are invited to have their say on what cuts should be made to council services - in the face of huge governments cuts.

Visitors to the Enfield Autumn Show on September 4 and 5 will be able to vote on their priority spending choices for Enfield Council.

Cllr Doug Taylor, leader of the council said: “We are facing increased demand on council services, such as adult social care, at the same time as suffering from large government cuts meaning we will have to find at least £33million in savings over the next two years.

“This is the minimum amount we are expected to save. We will not know the final cost to Enfield until October. But we cannot afford to wait until then to see what we have to do to make our borough a better and fairer place to live.

“While we are committed to freezing council tax, protecting front line services as much as possible, we also want to learn what resident’s priorities are and work them into our plans."

The council is also launching a special interactive exercise on its website which allows people to make the spending choices as if they were the authority’s treasurer. The game will enable residents to make budget choices in several key areas. The "player" must balance the books by either increasing or decreasing spending in these areas, however, the game will inform the resident the consequences of their choice.

Cllr Taylor added: "It’s a bit of fun but the reality of these government’s are very serious for Enfield. Accounts and finance are not the most entertaining of subjects so hopefully we can attract more people to make their views known.”
