A man's face was slashed with a broken bottle last night (Monday) during a fight in north Watford.
The 20-year-old victim was injured after an "altercation" broke out between a group of men, which began in St Albans Road and moved to Brixton Road where he was hit by the bottle, at about 8.45pm.
He was taken to Watford General Hospital for treatment.
Police officers cordoned off the area where the assault took place this morning to carry out their investigations.
Detective Sergeant Ian Siggery said: “This altercation has left a young man with serious injuries to his face. We are working hard to establish the full circumstances of the incident and would urge anyone who knows anything about it to call police immediately.
“If you were in the area at that time and may have seen this group of young men we would very much like to hear from you.”
Anyone with information should telephone DS Siggery or investigator Abigail Bianco at Watford police station on 0845 3300222.
A 17-year-old man from Watford was arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody.
