Police hunting those behind the failed London bombings of July 21 have arrested a 27-year-old man in west London.

Anti-terrorists officers detained the man in Kensington Church Street, Kensington, just before noon yesterday.

He is being questioned at a central London police station on suspicion of the "commission, preparation or instigation" of terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2000.

Detectives are also searching two homes and one business in west London.

London transport came to a standstill on July 21 last year when four suspects allegedly tried to set off bombs on a bus in Hackney and Tube trains at Warren Street, Shepherd's Bush and The Oval. There were no casualties.

The attacks followed two weeks to the day after the July 7 blasts, in which four suicide bombers killed 52 innocent people.

So far 16 people arrested over the attempted bombings have been charged.

In September five men will stand trial at the Old Bailey for conspiracy to murder.

They are Ibrahim Muktar Said, 27, Ramzi Mohamed, 23, Yassin Omar, 24, Manfo Asiedu, 32, and Hussain Osman, 27.

A sixth suspect, 23-year-old Adel Yahya, is charged with conspiracy to cause explosions "of a nature likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property".

Ten others face charges of failing to disclose information and assisting the bomb suspects in evading arrest.
